Every late Sunday night at midnight, a guest DJ outside of KEXP's on-air talent will take you on an hour-long journey through their record collection to showcase their unique sonic vision of a Midnight In A Perfect World.

Few bands have stayed as consistently fresh and funky throughout the 21st century as NYC-based outfit !!! Formed by Nic Offer in Sacramento in the late 1990s, !!! have managed to tinker and reveal new shades to their infectious dancefloor-primed sound over a deep catalog of unmissable singles, EPs, and albums. Last month they unveiled their 9th full-length album 'Let It Be Blue' for their longtime label Warp Records, adding another colorful entry into their discography that finds them sprinkling in acoustic folk-pop ballads, Balearic dance-pop, and reggaeton amidst a steady supply of thumping house jams and New Wave-influenced funk.
Musician, writer, and label runner Nabil Ayers has worn many hats throughout his illustrious career within the music community and solidified a legacy as a champion of independent music both locally in Seattle and across the globe. The son of legendary musician Roy Ayers, Nabil co-founded Seattle's Sonic Boom Records in 1997 at the age of 25 and played drums in several bands including The Long Winters and Tommy Stinson. He's the current President of Beggars Group US, where he has managed campaigns for renowned acts such as The National, Big Thief, Grimes, Future Islands and St. Vincent, and he also runs his own independent label The Control Group / Valley of Search that has released music by Cate Le Bon, Lykke Li, The Killers, PJ Harvey, Patricia Brennan, and his uncle, the jazz musician Alan Braufman. As a writer, Nabil has written about race and music for The New York Times, NPR, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone and GQ. His new memoir 'My Life in the Sunshine' will be published this month on June 7th.
Seattle native Gabriel Meier is a writer, editor, radio host, former label runner, and a longtime trusted source for adventurous underground electronic music. He launched the revered blog Astral Plane and its accompanying mix series as a passion project in 2012 before expanding the platform into a record label. Quickly garnering a fervent audience, Astral Plane Recordings and its sister label Contagion Discs existed at the thrilling intersection of club and experimental music and provided a homebase for innovative artists such as Chants, Maral, LOFT (aka aya), E.M.M.A, and SHALT. Although the label brought its run to a close this year with the parting compilation 'Astraltopia,' Gabriel remains active hosting a monthly NTS Radio show, contributing the recurring feature 'The Best Club Music on Bandcamp,' and serving as an editor of the recently-launched Bellona Magazine.
Automatic are a Los Angeles trio carving out a unique lane with their genre-blurring music that blends a love for post-punk, Krautrock, dub reggae, New Wave, synth-pop, and other styles into an urgent, colorful, and addictive sound. Composed of Izzy Glaudini, Lola Dompé, and Halle Saxon-Gaines, Automatic released their debut full-length album 'Signals' in September 2019 on Stones Throw Records and have recently brought their thrilling live show on tour supporting acts such as Tame Impala, IDLES, and Parquet Courts. Their sophomore album 'Excess' tackles a unique strain of retrofuturist motorik pop and is set to be released on June 24th.
