50 Years of Music: 2020

It’s KEXP’s 50th anniversary, and to celebrate we’re taking an in-depth look at each year of our history – from 1972 to 2022. All year long we’ll be bouncing around the timeline, pulling out the best music from a different year each week – both the songs we all know and love and music we might’ve missed the first time around.

If you missed this week's Wednesday spotlight, revisit the day of programming using KEXP's Two-Week Streaming Archive!

Pushing Boundaries:
Celebrating Asian and Pasifika Experiences Through Music

Throughout the month of May and far beyond, KEXP celebrates Asian and Pasifika voices in music and the arts. This year’s Pushing Boundaries programming kicked off on Monday, May 2nd with KEXP DJs joined by Asian and Pasifika co-hosts who bring stories, perspectives, and music from the various APA cultures in our rich Seattle community. Guests include Crystal White, Dakota Camacho, Richard Fineza Saguin & Lonnie Lomuntad-Wells, JusMoni, and Tomo Nakayama.

Six Degrees of Dolly Parton

On Friday, April 22nd, KEXP celebrated Six Degrees of Dolly Parton. From 7 AM-7 PM PT, DJs linked each song to the one they played before, beginning with, weaving in and out of, and ending with the music of the Queen of Country herself, Dolly Parton. The DJs made connections through guest vocals, shared musicians, samples, and more, but songs are selected totally on the fly and without pre-planning. If you missed a minute, revisit the day of live human-powered radio below.

Celebrating Indigenous Resistance on KEXP

On Wednesday, July 1st, KEXP DJ Gabriel Teodros took over The Morning Show on KEXP to celebrate Indigenous resistance, as well as Black/Indigenous co-resistance, through music. He also welcomed special guest Jarrett Martineau, host of CBC's RECLAIMED, "which is a weekly series that airs across Canada exploring the many worlds of contemporary Indigenous music, and co-founder of RPM which is a global new music platform, record label, and boutique agency to discover the most talented Indigenous musicians from across Turtle Island and around the world." Teodros stated on his Instagram account: "Jarrett's work has been a light and an inspiration on the way I approach radio since before I ever had a job at KEXP, his playlists have had a regular influence on the music I play, and I'm so thankful to finally have him on the air with me."
